Gladys Thomas Anderson, 66, passed from her earthly life at her home on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
She was born December 9, 1947 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Herbert Brougham and Gladys Bowen Thomas. Also remembered is her son, Wright "Andy" LaFate Anderson, Jr., who preceded Gladys in death.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Wright LaFate Anderson; her daughters, Julie Daughtry, Wendy Attmore and Katie Taylor; grandchildren, Gray, Anderson, Sloan and Quinn; and her sister, Mary Lee Lackey.
She graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in teaching and completed her Masters Degree in Education Administration at UNC-Wilmington. Gladys was an active member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Gladys completed her teaching career as the principal at Wrightsboro Elementary School in Wilmington. Previously, she was an assistant principal in Pender and New Hanover County schools and the headmaster at Pender Academy. Gladys and her husband, Wright, were the former owners of Jackson Hewitt in Burgaw and surrounding areas, and the current owners of the Wilmington Trolley Company. More recently, Gladys enjoyed being "Gigi" to her grandchildren and traveling with Wright by RV and boat in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
Memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. John Fedoronko officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the Burgaw Depot.
