Gladys Casey Ferrell, 86, of Burgaw passed gently from her earthy life on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville.

She was born July 30, 1926 in Pender County, the daughter of the late Joseph Richard and Exie Olive Casey. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William Graham Ferrell, Sr. and a grandson.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Barbara F. Bailey (Harold) of Fuquay Varina; son, William "Bill" G. Ferrell, Jr. (Deborah) of Burgaw; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister, Virginia C. Williams; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Burgaw Baptist Church where in years past she was very active in church activities. Gladys was retired from All State Insurance Company.

Gladys was a genteel lady filled with grace and great love for her family. Always with a smile on her face and a kind word to greet you, she set a positive example for her children and grandchildren to follow. In years past some of Gladys' greatest enjoyments were growing flowers and working in her yard and garden. Having a great love for all of God's creatures, Gladys enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Burgaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Nathan Morton officiating. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the church fellowship hall until hour of the service.
