A kind and gentle soul, a gracious and loving lady, Gladys Justice Orr, entered eternal rest on Saturday, October 30, 2021at the age of 93. She was born January 12, 1928 to Robert James Batson and Ethel Batson, living all of her wonderful life in the Sloop Point Community of Hampstead. She spent many happy years raising their three children with her husband, Grey Justice who died in 1992. In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her sisters, Joan McMillan, Betty Lou Yarbrough, and Doris Groves; and brother, Robert Batson, Jr.

Gladys was blessed a second time with a devoted husband, Earl Arthur Orr. In addition to her husband, Gladys is survived by her daughter, Anna Kathryn "Kathy" Lanier (Neil); sons, Daniel "Danny" Grey Justice (Kathleen) and Robert Mark Justice (Cindy); step-daughter, Kim Orr; grandchildren, Rodney Lanier (Glynis), Lisa Harts; Joshua Justice (Erica), Jennifer Malpass, Megan Justice, Jacob Justice (Kristen), Paula McDonald (Jimmy), and Casey Justice (Nikki); 16 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brother, Harry Batson (Wana); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys was a longtime member of Barlow Vista Baptist Church and current member of Hampstead Baptist Church. At Barlow Vista she served as youth and adult choir director and was dedicated to her Lord in whatever service was needed in the church.  She was an active member in the senior adult ministry at Hampstead Baptist.  Gladys enjoyed her music and sang with the Waymakers Gospel Quartet for 35 years.  Gladys was employed with the Bank of North Carolina in Holly Ridge and retired as bank manager.

Her journey on earth was a life well lived. Her love for family was the most important thing in her life and Gladys was the true matriarch of her family.  She had a way of making everyone she knew feel special. She and her husband, Earl, of 27 years enjoyed traveling and camping with their friends in Fancy Gap, Virginia.  In her later years with impaired vision, Gladys never missed a beat, still smiling, still laughing, still caring.  Her desire in life was to see her family and friends "come to know Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord".

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Hampstead Baptist Church, 67 Factory Road, Hampstead, with service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Danny Justice and The Rev. Joey Canady will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Barlow Vista Baptist Church Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Rodney Lanier, Joshua Justice, Jacob Justice, Casey Justice, Nathan McMillan, John E. Yarbrough, and Byron Batson.
