Gladys Richardson Sewell, age 75, of Currie died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born February 13, 1935 in Aynor, South Carolina and was the daughter of the late Charles and Carrie Powers Richardson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Curtis Sewell; sisters, Louise Dixon and Minnie Edwards and brothers, Marion "Buddy" Richardson, Tom Richardson, Henry Richardson, Eddie Richardson, and J. T. Richardson.
Surviving are her sons, Wesley Curtis Sewell II (Debbie) of Oak Island and Owen Thomas Sewell (Glenda) of Currie; grandchildren, Pete Sewell (Crystal), Amanda Powers (Mark), Beth Lunsford (Harold), Kristen Dewberry (Josh) and Brent Sewell; great grandchildren, Bridgett Sewell and Wesley Sewell; brother, Archie Richardson; special nieces, Patsy Farmer and Shirley Barnhill and special friend, John Dillon.
Gladys was a member of St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Gladys loved her family beyond measure and showed it in her own special way. She lived her life with zest and with her joyful personality she loved to laugh, tell jokes and sing "Blue Grass" music. Flowers, quilting and sewing were all things Gladys did well and enjoyed as long as her health permitted. Memories of Gladys will always be cherished and remain on our hearts.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. Following the visitation a Memorial service will be at 12 noon at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church with Father Rafael A. Leon Valencia officiating. Gladys will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Wesley, in St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church Cemetery.
