Gladys James Sydes, age 83, of Wallace and formerly of Kinston died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 5, 1924 to the late Walter James and Lizzie Thompson James. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Sydes and her three sisters and four brothers.
Mrs. Sydes was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Holiness Church.
Surviving are her devoted children, Charles Sydes, Delores Maxine Padgett and husband, Durwood all of Wallace, Nora Ellen Goff of Kinston and Jerry Sydes of Kinston; grandchildren, Victor Glenn Padgett, Jerry Wayne Padgett, Tony Allen Padgett, James Lee Goff, Jr. and wife, Rhonda and Tammy Goff Tyndall and husband, Jimbo; great grand children, Kelly Padgett, Megan Padgett, Zachary Allen Padgett, Victoria Padgett, Kayland Adams, Daniel Bullock, Cody Tyndall, Colby Tyndall, Colton Tyndall and Laykin Goff; sisters, Grace Whaley of Wallace, Rachel Bell of Kingsport, TN and Ruth Brown of Rocky Point and brother, Durwood James of Wallace.
Funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Swinson and Pastor Steve Dixon officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service until 9:00 p.m. at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace and other times at the home of Maxine and Durwood Padgett.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2008 at James Family Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Victor Glenn Padgett, Jerry Wayne Padgett, Tony Allen Padgett, James Lee Goff Jr., James "Jimbo" Tyndall and Cody James Tyndall.
Mrs. Sydes' family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Down East Medical, Lenoir Family Medical, Dr. Robert Gallaher and Ms. Bessie of Home Health Care for the outstanding care that they provided to Mrs. Sydes during her illness.
