Obituary

Gordon Bennett Bloodworth, age 82, of Atkinson passed gently from this earth to his eternal rest on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at his home.

He was born November 14, 1927 in Atkinson, the son of the late John Huffman and Mae Fathmia Johnson Bloodworth.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Polly Kelly Bloodworth; son, Bennett Kelly Bloodworth (Cammy) of Atkinson; daughter, Sheila Bloodworth Ford (Bobby) of Concord, CA; special niece, Linda Simpson Bingham of Bolivia; grandchildren, Benny Bloodworth of Atkinson, Lyndsey B. Buchanan (Duane) of Stanley, Robert Ford and Leah Ford both of Concord, CA; great grandchildren, Lilly and Ally Buchanan; sister, Rachel Bell of Jacksonville, FL and many nieces and nephews.

Gordon was a faithful member of Atkinson Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Being the last man drafted from Pender County toward the end of WW II, Gordon served his country honorably in the US Army. He was retired after 35 years with Federal Paper Company and for many years was a Pender County farmer.

He was a loving husband and devoted daddy, granddaddy "papa", great granddaddy, brother and friend. Gordon was noted in the community for his wood crafting skills and generously shared his hand made wooden furniture and swings with family and friends. He was a soft spoken southern gentleman in every respect. Lovingly remembered are Gordon's faith in God, caring of his family and his respect for others. Well done Thy good and faithful servant; enter into your rest.

The family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 at Atkinson Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the church officiated by The Rev. Douglas Warnock and The Rev. Ottis King. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Joey Barnes, Andy Barnes, Chris Barnes, Andy King, Jonathan Corbett, and Matt Barnhill. Honorary bearers will be Lee Simpson, Morris Bloodworth, Jack Turner, Charlie Baker and members of the Men's Sunday School Class.
