Gordon Lee "Pat" Sholar, Sr., age 84, of Hampstead and formerly of Wallace died Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Thomasville Medical Center.

He was born on March 23, 1932 in Duplin County and was one of nine children belonging to the late George Dunn and Verline James Sholar. He is predeceased by seven of his siblings.

Gordon proudly served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He loved his country and was proud to be an American.

Surviving is his wife of 10 years, Janice Howard Sholar of Hampstead, his son, Gordon Lee "Chris" Sholar, Jr. and wife, Karen of Wilmington; his daughter, Kim Sholar of Wilmington; step-daughter, Amanda Bottles and husband, Jeremy Cutlip of Hampstead; brother, Maurice Wade Sholar and wife, Iris Dean of Chinquapin and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Pat, as he was affectionately called, was a man who loved his family and his friends. He was a dedicated Republican who loved politics. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at Hardees, fishing and playing golf. With an outgoing personality, Pat never met a stranger and loved people. Pat will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew him.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Henderson Sholar Cemetery, George Dunn Sholar Road, Wallace, NC.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service on Wednesday.
