Obituary

Grover Jerome "Jerry" Barnes, age 67, of Atkinson died Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter.

He was born July 14, 1942 in Pender County, the son of Margaret Flynn Barnes of Atkinson and the late Grover Cleveland Barnes.

In addition to his mother Jerry is survived by his loving family: his wife of twenty years, Pamela "Pam\\" Bass Barnes; children, Anthony Thornton and Lynette Haynes (Grant) all of Atkinson; grandchildren, Ashton Thornton, Emily Thornton and Shelby Reaves; sister, Carolyn Barnhill (Danny); brothers, Joey Barnes (Sue) and Timmy Barnes (Tammy); nieces and nephews, Missy Daniel (Keith), Allyson Wells, Chris Barnes (Lori), Andy Barnes, Wayne Barnes, Suzanne Barnes, Brittney Barnes, and Nick Barrett and numerous extended family that Jerry thought the world of.

Jerry was a member of Atkinson Holiness Church and past member of Atkinson Volunteer Fire Department. Being a charter member of Mill Branch Hunting Club and Pender Bass Masters, Jerry was an avid fisherman and was the hunting club's "chef". Jerry was a quiet, kind gentleman who loved his family dearly. He could fix most anything and had one of the most beautiful yards in Atkinson. Cherished memories of Jerry will forever remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Wesley Hairr and The Rev. Charles Ray Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Kelly.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.
