Hannah Garland Hatcher Batts has been given rest from mortality in her 84th year. She went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, from Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center in Wilmington.
The only sister to 13 brothers, Hannah was born July 20, 1927 to the late Willie Hill Hatcher and Barbara Catherine Lanier of Chinquapin. She was predeceased by her son, James Rudy Batts and daughter, Barbara Ann Batts; brothers, Lee Hatcher, William Hatcher, George Hatcher, Herman Hatcher, Bilbro Hatcher, Tommy Hatcher, Jackie Hatcher, Jimmy Hatcher and son-in-law, Horace Batchelor.
Hannah was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served the Lord for over 50 years. During her life, she never doubted the existence of her Savior. She taught that knowledge and her testimony to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. To everyone she met Hannah gave unconditional love.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her devoted husband of 68 years, James William Batts; her children, Judy Batchelor, Kathy Rivenbark and husband, Darrel, Susan Adkins and husband, Norman, Mark Batts and wife, Denise; grandchildren, Scott Batchelor and wife, Lynell, Elizabeth Hoxie and husband, Chandler and Charlie Adkins and wife, Jovonna; great grandchildren, Ashton, Ethan and Cole Batchelor; brothers, Jerry Hatcher and wife, Doris, Guy Hatcher and wife, Lillian, Tim Hatcher and wife, Karen, Bobby Hatcher and wife, Macie, Johnny Hatcher and wife, Carolyn; sisters-in-law, Sally Hatcher, Edna Ray Hatcher, Gail Hatcher and Janice Hatcher and her aunt, Peachie Rivenbark.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with President Danny Henderson and President Norman Adkins officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday evening, July 13, 2012 at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
Hannah was a lady in every sense of the word and to know her was to love her. She was a loving wife and devoted Mama, Grammie, sister and friend. With her amazing strength and heart of gold, she was the glue and anchor that held her family together. Everyone who knew Hannah knew she was a dedicated Christian and her life was an example to everyone around her. Hannah was surely loved and will certainly be missed by all who knew her. Cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Hannah.
