Harriett Meador Hicks, age 75, of Fuquay Varina and formerly of Watha died Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

She was born January 7, 1933 in Watha, the daughter of the late Zebulon and Mary Bell Wells.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Ronald "Ron" Hicks, Sr. of the home; daughters, Mary Anna Vetter (Yates) of Wilmington, Nikki Lynn Johnson (Kenny) of Fuquay Varina and Michelle Hicks-Rowell (Rudy) of Cary; sons, Dennis W. Hicks (Debbie) of Wilmington, Ronnie Hicks, Jr. of Fuquay Varina (fiancee'- Shirley Hershburger), both of Fuquay Varina and Marvin D. Hicks (Dawn) of Angier; nine grandchildren, Tabitha (Shawn), Timothy, Krysten, Kasey, Kerry (Mark), Brandon, Harlee, Jonathan and Jason; great grandson, Daniel; and brothers, Donavon Wells (Edna) and Robert Wells, all of Wilmington.

Harriett was a devoted and loving wife and the best mom, grandmother and sister. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family. She loved Bingo, shopping, sewing, Barbee dolls, and thimbles. Never meeting a stranger Harriett was a real people person, always finding the best in everyone. She created a home filled with love, laughter and sunshine where everyone felt welcome. Being an excellent cook, she was noted for her collards. Harriett will be forever remembered for her love of laughter, warm heart, and joyful spirit. Cherished memories of Harriett will always remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral service will be 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Casto Fernandez officiating.

Following the funeral service on Saturday the family will receive friends at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.
