Harriett Autry Smith, 86 of Wallace passed peacefully from this earthly life on Sunday, August 25, 2013 and is now asleep in the Lord as she awaits the resurrection.
She was born May 18, 1927 in Sampson County; the last of 15 children of the late Mack K. and Delia Brock Autry. She is predeceased by her husband, of 59 years, Simon Smith. She passed away on her and Simon's 68th wedding anniversary.
Surviving are her children, David Smith (Geneva) of Wallace, Johnnie Smith (Lisa) of Fayetteville, Ralph Smith of Wallace, Cecil Smith (Kay) of Hope Mills, Judy Ake (Mike) of Fayetteville and Ricky Smith of Wallace; 7 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Harriett was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was family. Being a diligent homemaker and great cook, she filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered. Harriett was a hard worker, good neighbor and friend who was loved by all who knew her. With a big heart and gentle spirit, she was a mother to many children beside her own. Harriette's family is grateful to God for her life and they consider themselves to be very blessed to have had such a wonderful mother, grandmother and aunt.
Funeral service will be held at 6:00pm Monday, August 26, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Blanton officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service until 9:00pm at the funeral home.
Graveside will be at 11:00am on Tuesday at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
Casketbearers will be Andrew Smith, Jeremy Ake, Jamey Ake, Tyler Smith, Sam Warrick, Tommy Strom and Noah Warrick.
