Harry Eugene Jordan, age 95, of Burgaw passed away peacefully Monday, August 24, 2009 at his home.
He was born June 20, 1914 in Pender County, the oldest son of George Fred and Maybelle Batson Jordan. He is also preceded in death by granddaughter, Pamela Meadows Ramsey; son-in-law, Lewis R. Meadows; sister, Olivia J. Lyon and brother, George J. Jordan.
Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Louise Hanchey Jordan of the home; children, Glenda Faye Jordan Meadows of Jacksonville, S. Eugene Jordan of Burgaw, Graham L. Jordan (Becky) of Rocky Point, and Carol "CJ" Jordan of Raleigh; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Carol Jordan Barnes of Colrain; brother Paul Jordan (Fay) of Erwin; and several nieces and nephews including two nieces and one nephew that he treated like his own children.
At the age of 10 years Harry joined Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church where he continued to be a faithful member all of his life. He was the oldest living member at the time of his death.
Harry was a graduate of Burgaw High School. During WW II he worked at the Wilmington Shipyard and later worked as an electrician and plumber in Pender County. He also was employed with NC Prison Dept. for 25 years.
Harry was a man of faith, integrity, always considerate of others, and lived his life according to his Christian principles. Cherished memories of Harry will forever remain in our hearts.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church with The Rev. John Barnes and The Rev. William Hill Pearsall officiating.
Burial will follow in Jordans Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Michael A. Meadows, John Meadows, Greg A. Bain, Paul Grossnickle, Jeremy Oglesby and Clay Barbee.
Honorary bearers will be The Prime Timers of Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.
Memorial gifts may be given to Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church, 4670 Stag Park Rd., Burgaw NC 28425.
The family would life to express sincere thanks to Dr. Michael Rallis, Dr. Kamran Goudarzi, staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and special caregiver, Lenora "Sally" Clark for their loving care and support during Harry's illness.
Harry lived by a simple creed: Do justice, love your neighbor and walk humbly with God. His life was devoted to uplifting others. Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.
