Obituary

Harry Carolus Thurlow, Jr., age 80, of Burgaw passed gently from his earthly life on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

He was born February 28, 1940 in Worcester County, Massachusetts, the son of the late Harry Carolus Thurlow, Sr. and Phyliss Thurlow. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Thurlow; son, Norman Thurlow; and several siblings.

Harry is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Thurlow; son, Michael Thurlow (Joy); grandchildren, Daniel Brown (Amanda), Joanna Thurlow, Hannah Thurlow, and Elijah Thurlow; great grandchildren, Megan Brown, Braeden Brown, Brantley Brown, and Serenity Brown; and many siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Harry Thurlow grew up in Massachusetts and Connecticut, in 1966 he moved and settled in and around Burgaw, NC with his young family. He did not know any stranger because he had the gift of "gab" and love to "shoot the breeze" with any and all he met. He was a man of great knowledge and ability. He could fix anything that was in front of him and end up with spare parts. Harry worked in many diverse areas, he was a true jack of all trades and quite good at all of them. Some of his jobs were a chicken house manager, pool hall owner, installing swimming pools, a Tri State area manager of  Woodman of The World Life Insurance, and many, many more! His latest job was working at Economy Tire  which he and his wife, Virginia started.

Virginia was the love of his life and took pride in "spoiling" him rotten. They both loved to joke around with each other and make each laugh. Harry was a proud father and grandfather. He loved his family and wanted the best for each and every one of them. He enjoyed having his family visit from Massachusetts and Connecticut whenever they could.  Telling stories of growing up with his siblings was an enjoyment to all, mostly to Harry.

Harry with all of his family is extremely grateful and thankful for the loving care that his daughter, Cheryl, provided for him in the last two years. Thank you Cheryl!
