Hazel Gurganious Wells, 91, of Watha, a gracious and sharing lady passed gently from her earthly life Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born November 13, 1931 in Atkinson, the daughter of Rodney H. Gurganious and Victoria Kenan Gurganious. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Bernice N. Wells; sister, Rosalee Webster, and brothers, Thomas, Robert Herman, and James Gurganious.

Hazel is survived by her son, Bernice Randall "Randy" Wells and beloved daughter-in-law, Mary Ann; daughters, Roslyn W. Heaton and her husband, Robert "Chip", Deborah "Debbie" E. Wells, and Lavinia "Vin" Swanson and husband, Eric; grandchildren, Blake Milam, Brittany Milam Schram (Joel), Owen Swanson (Ashley), Airell Swanson, and Alden Swanson (Annie); six great grandchildren; brother, George Horace Gurganious (Margaret); sister-in-law, Parthenia "Pat" Gurganious; beloved nephew, Dale Hardison (Debbie) along with many additional nieces, nephews, and friends.

For over 29 years Hazel was secretary at Penderlea Elementary School and in that position she influenced and enriched the lives of many students.  She was a faithful member of Forest Hill Baptist Church.

Hazel was an extraordinary woman of God whose resounding faith and love for family was unmatched. Her brightly shining light often served as a guide to those around her. Those that knew Hazel will always remember her passion for growing beautiful flowers, cooking for those she loved and spending holidays with family.  She was a true example of what it meant to be a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend. Her presence in our lives will be forever missed but we find solace in knowing she is at peace and rejoicing with her Almighty Father.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with funeral service beginning 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial donation may be given to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
