Obituary

Heber Forest Costin, age 87, passed peacefully from his earthly life Thursday, February 6, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born October 28, 1937 in Pender County, the son of Wiley Forest Costin and Alberta Caison Costin. In addition to his parents Heber was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Cliff DeBose.

Heber is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Sandra Smith Costin; daughters, Linda Costin DeBose, Becky Rivenbark DeBose, and Angela Costin Varrone (Jim); grandchildren, Joshua Rivenbark (Lauren), Christopher DeBose (Jessica), Kayla Fitzgerald (Scott), and Caitlyn Varrone (Hanc); great grandchildren, Gabby DeBose, Ayden Swinson, Gatlyn DeBose, Graelyn DeBose, Adalyn Swinson and Jackson Fitzgerald; and many extended family and friends.

Heber retired after working for 30 years at General Electric in the maintenance department.

Heber was a loving husband, daddy and "Papa". He did many great things in his 87 years, including serving in the US Army Reserves, being one of the founding members of Shiloh-Columbia Volunteer Fire Department as well as serving as a deacon and teacher at Shiloh Baptist Church. Heber enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking. Most of all he loved being with his family and passing down his many years of knowledge to his children and grandchildren. Heber's family is grateful to God for each and every day they had with him. He was well known and loved dearly. Heber will truly be missed by all.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Shiloh Baptist Church with service at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Mr. Charles Lee, Rev. David Knowles, and Rev. Gardner Eakins will conduct the service.

Burial will follow in Costin Family Cemetery.
