Helena Dare Gurganus Holton, age 82, of Wallace, passed from this earthly life to her eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 24, 2023.

She was born on Onslow County on Septrember 18, 1940 to the late Walter L. and Bessie Horne Gurganus.  Helena was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James W. Holton, Jr. and her siblings, Myrtle Marie Register, Jennell Gurganus, Howell Gurganus, Carl Gurganus and Don Gurganus.

She was a devoted member of Willard Baptist Church where she was choir director for over 30 years.  Helena loved her church and was a faithful servant.

Surviving are her loving children, James W. Holton, III and wife, Beth of Willard and Myrae Holton Bradshaw and husband, Ray of Wilmington; grandchildren, Donovon Bradshaw, Vikram Trikha, Deklan Bradshaw, Drake Bradshaw and Lily Holton; sisters, Zella Van Bavel and Shirley Jenkins; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Helena dearly.

Helena was a wonderful mother and caring grandmother, sister and friend.  She loved her family with all her heart and was always there for each of them.  Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she enjoyed every minute she spent with them.  Helena enjoyed working in her yard and with flowers.   She was surely one who never met a stranger.  She loved people and was loved in return. Most of all, Helena loved the Lord and lived her life as a Christian example.  She will certainly be missed but never forgotten.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at Riverview Memorial Park, Watha, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gift be sent in Helena's memory to Willard Baptist Church, PO Box 98, Willard, NC  28478.
