Henry Thomas Fischer, Jr., age 93, of Atkinson died Monday, September 21, 2009 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 4, 1916 in Washington, DC, the son of the late Henry Thomas and Gertrude Pullman Fischer. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Susan Phipps and Joy Fischer; and one grandson.

Surviving are his wife of seventy-five years, Evelyn B. Fischer of the home, daughter, Evelyn G. Downing of Atkinson; son-in-law, Walter C. Phipps of Atkinson; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Mr. Fischer was a retired policeman from the Washington DC Police Department and also from Safeway Stores, Inc.

Henry was a kind and gentle man who loved his family dearly. He was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying football and baseball games. Family, friends and Henry's cat, Kitty Andy, will miss him greatly. Cherished memories of Henry will always remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, September 24, 2009 at United Faith Fellowship in Atkinson with the Rev. Merrell McKoy officiating.

Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw.
