Henry Douglas Mears, age 66, of Wallace left his earthly life for his eternal rest on Monday, March 6, 2017 from his residence.

He was born on November 23, 1950 in Roberson County, NC and was the son of the late Murdock Mears and Blondell Foley Mears Norris. Also lovingly remembered is his late brother, Danny Mears.

He was a member of Willard Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving is his loving wife of 38 years, Nancy Sellers Mears; his step children, Rebecca Fussell and husband, Phillip, Mark Odom and wife, Ann, all of Willard and Earl Odom and wife, Patricia of Penderlea; step grandchildren, Lisa Hughes, Jennifer Cottle and husband, Blake, Mike Fussell and Blake Fussell; step great grandchildren, Samantha Hughes. Kayla Cottle and Benjamin Hughes; brother, Ricky Mears of Florida; sisters, Sylvia Thompson, Teresa Brinkley, both of Wallace and Dana Mears of Fayetteville and numerous extended family and friends that loved Doug.

Doug was devoted husband and caring step father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly. He was a man tall in stature but gentle in nature. He was a hard worker who worked for the NC State Prison as an inmate guard for 10 years and for the Town of Wallace for 21 years. His warmth and loving spirit showed everyone he met his love for his Lord and Savior. Doug will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever live in the heart of those who knew and loved him.

Memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Willard Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with his pastor, the Reverend Rodney Bonham officiating.
