Herbert Lee Matthews, 72, of Rocky Point, passed from his earthly life on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.

He was born March 21, 1944 in Wilmington the son of the late Clarence Lee Matthews and Marie Miller Melvin.

Herbert is survived by his daughter, Laura Lynn Mott (Ron); son, Jesse Lee Matthews; six grandchildren; thirteen great granddaughter; and sister, Patricia Elaine Smith.

Herbert served his country honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.
