Herbert Lewis Moore, 84, of Rose Hill passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his residence.

He was born December 31, 1930 in Sampson County; the son of the late Alvin Addison Moore and Lina Elizabeth Rivenbark Moore Rooks. He was also preceded in death by his son, Ronald Lewis Moore; brother, James A. Moore and sister, Geraldine McMahan.

Mr. Moore served his country honorably in the US Army. He was a devoted member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and a 68 year member of Woodmen of the World. He was employed with Murphy Farms for numerous years where he acquired many friends.

Surviving is his beloved wife of 62 years, Armour Mills Moore of the home; daughters, Patsy Moore Bolick (Larry) of Burgaw and Sharon Moore Matthews (Ricky) of Rose Hill; grandchildren, Monica Bass (Michael), Tamara Townsend (Brian), and Kayla Bolick; great grandchildren, Zachery Page, Brooklyn Bass, Brianna Townsend, Brandi Townsend and Kaiden Townsend; brother, Frank Moore (Pauline) of Rose Hill; sisters, Lillian Barnhill of Wilmington, Betty McPhail (Kenneth) of Tomahawk and Edith Ottoway of Durham and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Lewis was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and brother. He found great joy in the simplest things, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. A man of great integrity, he lived his life based on Christian principles and instilled Christian values in his children. Lewis was dedicated to his Lord, his family and his church; always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed being outdoors especially gardening. Lewis will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his generosity, his love for family and friends and his steadfast faith in God.

Funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Rose Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Rose and Pastor Tom McMahan officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Clayton Davis, Mark Davis, Owen Davis, Jamie Moore, Forrest Murray and Dwight Strickland.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm Tuesday, one hour prior the service at the church.
