Hilda Hair Atkinson, 82, of Currie passed gently from her earthly life on Monday, September 24, 2018 following a full and blessed life.

She was born July 2, 1936 in Bladen County, the daughter of the late Alvin Currie and Katie Geneva Melvin Hair. Also, lovingly remembered is her husband, Hugh Myrtle Atkinson, Sr. and granddaughter, Stephanie, both who preceded Hilda in death.

Hilda is survived by her sons, Hugh Atkinson, Jr. and wife Jacki, Willie Atkinson and wife, Gayle, and Gene Atkinson; daughter, Donna Atkinson Sharp and husband David; grandchildren, Katie, Megan, Alison, Melissa, Joseph, Jonathan, and Ashley; great grandchildren, Skyler and Armani; brother, Bobby Hair and Johnny Hair and wife Pat; sister, Billie McLaughlin and husband, Kenneth; and many extended family and friends, all who loved Hilda.

She was a long time member of Long Creek Baptist Church. Hilda enjoyed being a member of The Red Hat Society and Atkinson Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 280.

Hilda, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend was a kind hearted, generous, dedicated caregiver who loved her family beyond compare. Her grandchildren were the light of her life as she enjoyed nothing more than spoiling them. Hilda gave some of us life, she gave the rest of us her beautiful spirit and abiding love.

The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2019 at Long Creek Baptist Church with service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The Rev. Wayne Bateman will conduct the service.

Burial will follow in Malpass Memorial Cemetery at Long Creek Baptist Church.
