Hilda Manley Carter, 91, of Rose Hill passed peacefully from her earthly life Saturday, Mar 5, 2022 at Duplin Vidant Hospital in Kenansville.
She was born July 6, 1930 in Sampson County, the daughter of Gordon Charles Rogers and Rosa Lee Mattis Rogers. In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Manley who died in 1971. She later married Thomas H. Carter who passed in 1997. Also lovingly remembered is her daughter, Gail Manley Brown; sisters, Verna Walker and Glenda Newton; and half-brother, Charles Rogers
Hilda is survived by her daughter, Sherry Manley; son-in-law, Danny Brown; step-children, Joan English (Charlie), Edith Flewellyn (Chris) and Roger Carter; half-sister, Mary Wells (Dalton); half-brother, Lee Rogers (Merita); five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many extended family members.
She was a founding member of Westview United Methodist Church where she was very active for a number of years. For over 20 years Hilda worked Roudabush's, a seed and flower store in downtown Wilmington.
Hilda was a gracious and loving Christian lady filled with a sweet spirit and a love for the Lord. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and playing the piano. Most of all she loved her family. Her presence on this earth will be greatly missed in our family and in our hearts.
Graveside service will be 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.
