Hilda "Ma Tucker" Rooks Russ, 83, of Kelly passed from her earthly life on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at her home surround with love by her family. She was born March 29, 1931 in Bladen County, the daughter of the late Reuben and Evaleena Moore Rooks. Hilda was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 65 years, Merten R. Russ; son, Rusty Russ; sister, Berneice R. Squires, and brothers, Ray Rooks and Earl Rooks.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy R. Walsak (Bob); son, Charles Russ (Peaches) all of Kelly; grandchildren, Terry Walsak (Kristy), Tommy Walsak (Lisa), Sunshine Neely (David) and Charlie Russ (Tonia); great grandchildren, Hailey, Alexandra, Michael, Amberly, Daisy, Hunter, Katie, Hannah and Sydney; great great granddaughter, Journey; sister, Rebecca R. Lennon; many nieces and nephews, including her special niece and caregiver, June Rooks.

Hilda was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She and Merten created a Christian home filled with love. Being a caring homemaker and cook, Hilda was noted for her delicious biscuits. Hilda's quiet faith and thankfulness for her many blessings spoke clearly to her family and friends. Her faith in the Lord never waivered even during her lengthy illness. Hilda says to us today, "Remember me not with tears of sadness for my journey on earth is complete. I, with Merten and Rusty, in the arms of Jesus am smiling."

Graveside funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Haw Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery with The Rev. Frank Russ and The Rev. Richard Wade officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the church Fellowship Hall until hour of the service.
