Hilda Rivenbark Southerland, age 66, of Willard died Thursday, September 17, 2009, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born August 20, 1943 in New Hanover County; the daughter of the late Herman Jackson and Thenia Ervil Jackson Rivenbark. She was also predeceased by her son, Donald Wayne Southerland and daughter, Angela Southerland.

Surviving are her loving husband of forty-nine years, Mack Southerland of the home; son, Randy Southerland (Sarah) of Penderlea; grandchildren, Res Southerland, Patricia Southerland, Mason Teachey, Kayla Southerland, Britton Piner and Kyleigh Piner; brother, Martin Rivenbark of Morehead City; sisters, Hazel Rivenbark and Geneva Grady, both of Watha; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Southerland was a member of Cora's Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.

Hilda loved her family dearly and showed her love in many ways. She loved family gatherings which were many times at her home where she cooked delicious meals. Hilda loved the beach and all of God's beautiful nature. All through her life Hilda had a steadfast faith that never wavered and was an inspiration to all. She was a caregiver to many in her family and always put needs of other before her own. Hilda's family is grateful to God for her life and for your kindness, friendship and prayers. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Baris Lanier officiating.

Burial will follow in Potts Memorial Church Cemetery, Willard.

Casketbearers will be Mason Teachey, Res Southerland, Richard Holland, Ray Rivenbark, Billy Holland and Marty Rivenbark. Honorary bearers will be Jimmy Walker and Mark Wells.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw and other times at the home of Randy and Sarah Southerland.
