Hobart Glenn
Whaley
Aug 27, 1929 — Aug 24, 2021
Hobart Glenn Whaley, born August 27,1929 to the late Onnie and Effie Sholar Whaley of Beulaville, NC passed away August 24, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. He would have celebrated his 92 birthday the same week but instead is rejoicing with the angels in Heaven!
Hobart served in the United States Army during the early 50's and was able to utilize the GI Bill to receive his education from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology, after working on the Whaley Brothers Farm growing and selling tobacco. His career as a pharmacist lasted 50 years as an independent drugstore owner with his partner John Bullock, pharmacist fill-in at other drugstores, and in public healthcare services in Wilmington for years. For a time, he even worked in real estate selling drug stores.
He was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church for 62 years and enjoyed Lunch and Learn and fostering relationships with members of his Sunday School Class.
His kind, sweet demeanor and sharp sense of humor will be sorely missed by all.
Hobart was preceded in death by his wife Alene Ritter Whaley, brothers Eugene Whaley (Lucy), and Milton Whaley (Neta). Left to remember him are his sisters-in-law Edythe Allen, Elanor Frederick and Nan Ritter; daughters Sylvia Lewis (Mike) and Karen Cobb (Charles); grandchildren Kristen Williams (Brad), Jon Lewis (Angel) and Nick Faulkner (Sherilyn); and greatgrandchildren Jordan and Will Williams; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hobart's name to Winter Park Baptist Church at 4700 Wrightsville Ave, Wilmington NC 28403 or at winterparkbaptist.org ; or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare at 1406 Physicians Dr, Wilmington NC 28401 or at lifecare.org .
