Horace Allard Eakins, 87, of Watha passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Huntington Health Care. He was born December 25, 1926 in Pender County to Jackson and Idella Mae Herring Eakins. In addition to his parents, Horace Allard was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Ruth Hearn Eakins; daughter, Mary Ann Eakins; sisters, Huelva E. Parker and Hazel E. Houze; and brothers, Festus, C. P. and Rhodes Eakins.
Horace Allard is survived by his daughters, Pamela E. Bradshaw (Mike) of Watha and Peggy E. Delohery (Sean) of Newtown, CT; son, Grant Eakins of Watha; grandchildren, Eric Bradshaw (Megan), Carie Beth Henderson (Mitchell), Erin Delohery, Brendan Delohery, Hunter Eakins and Julie Eakins; five great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He served his country honorably in the US Navy and was a rural mail carrier for 30 years. Horace Allard was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Not only was Horace Allard a beloved husband and wonderful daddy, granddaddy and uncle, but generous friend to all who knew him. All of his life, Horace Allard enjoyed God's nature and the outdoors; whether it was farming, gardening, hunting or playing golf. His memory will endure in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Shiloh Baptist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Gardner Eakins will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Herring Family Cemetery.
The family would like to express their thankful hearts for the care, love, compassion and support given to Horace Allard and to them by the staff of Huntington Health Care during Horace Allard's journey to go be with his beloved Ruth who died just three weeks ago.
Memorial gifts may be given to Shiloh Baptist Church, 19685 US Hwy 421, Watha, NC 28478.
