Howard Carr, age 90, of Burgaw passed from his earthy life to his eternal heavenly home on Saturday, June 5, 2010. Everyone who knew Howard knew first and foremost he loved the Lord and that he always had a little story to share. On the way to the hospital on Saturday the rescue EMT said Howard told them one of his little stories. Shortly after reaching the ER Howard went to Glory and met his Maker. He was blessed all through his life to the very end.
He was born September 27, 1919 in Pitt County, the son of Louise Seamster. Also remembered are his wife of 52 years, Doris Goff Carr who died in 1993 and his son-in-law, Freddie Halso who died in 2003.
Howard leaves behind his beloved family, his wife of 16 years, Janice Edmundson Carr of the home; son, Joseph "Joe" R. Carr (Christine) of Penderlea; daughters, Arlene C. Barfield of Shalimar, Florida and Carol C. Halso of Chinquapin; grandchildren, Jolene B. Amato (Joe), Howie Barfield, Joey Carr (Andrea), Faron Halso, Amy C. Peterson (Todd) and Jamie Halso (Jill); 11 great grandchildren; step-children, Phillip "Butch" Shirley (Brenda) of Ayden, Peggy Shirley of Ayden, and Jeff Shirley of Greenville; four step-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.
Mr. Carr was a longtime faithful member of Burgaw Holiness Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. He served his country honorably and loyalty in the US Army during WW II, receiving a Purple Heart. Many will remember Howard as an automobile salesman and a farmer.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Burgaw Holiness P.F.W.B. Church with Pastor Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
Casketbearers will be Howie Barfield, Joey Carr, Faron Halso, Jamie Halso, Smith Carr, Todd Peterson, Amy C. Peterson and Jolene B. Amato.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
