Murray, Sr.
August 1, 1928 – April 9, 2012
Howard Lee Murray, Sr., age 83, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, April 9, 2012.
Born August 1, 1928 in Duplin County, Howard was the son of the late Henry Steve and Geneva Merritt Murray. He was predeceased by his wife and mother of his children, Patricia "Patsy" Murray in 2003; and brothers, Floyd Murray and Thomas Murray.
Howard served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. During that time, he received several metals of honor for his outstanding service. In the 1940's Howard continued his dedication to others by serving his community as an auxiliary policeman. From 1961 to 1991 he served the town of Wallace as a police officer where he grew in rank from officer to Lieutenant.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 7 years, Mary Evans Murray of the home; his children, Howard Lee Murray, Jr. and wife, Donna of Wallace, Byron C. Murray and wife, Dianne of Beulaville, Kay M. Lanier and husband, Rusty of Chinquapin and Dean M. Wells and husband, Robert of Wallace; grandchildren, Tracie Hanchey and husband, Eddie, Aaron Kennedy and wife, Angelica, Eric Murray and wife, Morgan, Monica Hughes and husband, Larry, Rebekah Murray, Patrick Murray, Keith Murray and Justin Murray; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, Everette Murray and wife, Gerry and Dulan Murray and wife, Billie, all of Wallace; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be 7:00pm Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church, 311 S. Cumberland Street in Wallace with the Reverend Bobby Forehand and the Reverend Rodney Bonham officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service at Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
Howard was a dedicated member of Willard Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and formerly a member of Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as deacon. He lived his life based on Christian principles and instilled Christian values in his children. His love for the Lord and unwavering personal commitment to live his life by God's Word was evident to all who knew him. Howard will forever be remembered for his outgoing personality, his love for his family and friends and his steadfast faith in God.
This is not the end for Howard.... it is his beginning.....
