Irene Pate Gray, 64, of Rocky Point was granted her angel wings on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Pender Memorial Hospital. Before her passing, Irene spent time with family and friends that she loved and they loved her.

She was born November 24, 1948 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Dwight L. Pate, Jr. and Fannie Stewart Pate. She was preceded in death by her son, James Thomas Colvin and brothers, Glenn Pate and D. L. Pate III.

Irene is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Larry Gray; daughters, Magan Gray and Kayla Gray; grandchildren, Tehya Colvin Aldrich and Zoey Beatty; sisters, Joyce Hayden (Whit), Elaine Reynolds (John) and Laura Birchett (Ken); many nieces and nephews including Amy, Michael and Mason Riggs; and many friends.

Irene was a member of Penderlea Pentecostal Holiness Church and in years past was a volunteer at Rocky Point Volunteer Fire Department and Pender County Rescue.

Irene loved with all of her heart and her radiant smile brightened the life of everyone she knew. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend; her joy in life was each and everyone of her family. Among her many talents and passions in life were cross stitching, delectable cooking, and attending baseball and basketball games with family. Irene will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, kindness, compassion, laughter and joy that she so generously shared. Irene was a gift to this world and loved by many.

Memorial service will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Penderlea Pentecostal Holiness Church with The Rev. Dean Walker officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
