Irene Bowman Pickett, age 82, of Ivanhoe passed gently from her earthly life to her Heavenly home on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 28, 1929 in Winston-Salem and was the daughter of LeRoy and Lena Bowman. Also remembered are her husband, John David Pickett; daughter, Patricia P. Bass; and son, Tommy Pickett all who preceded Irene in death.
Surviving Irene are her sons, John Raymond Pickett, Sr. (Nellie) of Ivanhoe, David Pickett (Joan) of Ivanhoe and James Pickett (Flossie) of Mt. Olive; daughter, Aleene P. Mills (Harry) of Watha; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brother, LeRoy Bowman, Jr. (Margaret) of Dunn; and special friend and caregiver, Linda Blake.
Irene was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved the Lord and always asked His blessing in whatever she undertook. Irene was a wonderful cook and homemaker who created a home fill with love and joy. A favorite of Irene's was shopping, rarely buying always looking. Irene will be remembered for her genuine smile, gentle laughter, love of family and most of all her steadfast faith in God.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Rodney Bonham and The Rev. Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Pickett Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Johnnie Pickett, Raymond Lee Pickett, James Pickett, Zachary Pickett, Jonathan Pickett and Donald Blanton.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home until time of the service and at other times will be at the home of Raymond and Nellie Pickett.
