James Fulton Avant, age 68, of Wilmington passed gently from his earthly life on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.

He was born February 24, 1944 in Duplin County; the son of the late Jason William Avant and Dora Pickett Avant. Also remembered is his brother, William Larry Avant, who preceded Jimmy in death.

Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Linda W. Avant; sister, Sue Brown (James) of Wilmington and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jimmy served his country honorably and proudly in the US Army National Guard.

Jimmy was a devoted husband and brother who loved his family dearly. He loved the ocean, sound, rivers and streams and in his leisure time enjoyed boating and fishing. He was an avid fan of UNC-Chapel Hill basketball and enjoyed NASCAR and Street Rods. With a great sense of humor and gentle spirit, Jimmy was loved by all who knew him. Cherished memories will forever live in the hearts of family and friends.
