James "Jimmy" Isham Barnhill, 71, of Currie passed peacefully Monday December 26, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington.

He was born December 11, 1951 in Wilmington, the son of Isham Gladwin Barnhill and Milda Elizabeth Brown Green. In addition to his parents Jimmy was preceded in death by his best friend who was like a brother, David Watkins.

Jimmy is survived by his love of 23 years, Peggy Sue Taylor; sister, Ann Corbett; daughter, Seanna Wilson (Eric); granddaughter, Shannon Edwards; best friend, Bobo Malpass; many extended family members and friends.

Jimmy served in the US Army.

Being a carpenter by trade Jimmy excelled in all the work that undertook. Jimmy was a kind man who never met a stranger. For relaxation and enjoyment, he spent many an hour fishing in lack River or dropping his hook anywhere he could find water. Jimmy was loved and was loved. His presence in our lives will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2023 at Bear Branch Baptist Church on Blueberry Road in Currie with Rev. Dale Blake conducting the service.. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Jimmy will be laid to rest beside his father in Haw Bluff Baptist Church Cemetery.
