James Harold Brooks, age 72, of Atkinson, NC passed away on November 19, 2018.

He was born July 30, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Floyd and Lucille Brooks. He was raised in Tennessee. He proudly served in the Marine Corp for 4 years during the Vietnam War. During his military service, he met the love of his life, Darlene in New York City. They went on to be married for 51 years where they raised three beautiful children. The family relocated and called eastern North Carolina home nearly 40 years ago.

James was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was extremely skilled with his hands and worked as a carpenter for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel David Brooks.

Left to remember him are his wife, Darlene Esther Brooks; children, Daniele Brooks Horne (Steven) of Penderlea, NC, Noel Keith Brooks of Wilmington, NC, Areka Christie Brooks of Atkinson, NC, and daughter-in-law, Alicia Mitchell of Wilmington, NC; brother, Floyd Maynard Brooks Jr. (Florence) of Senoia, GA; sister, Margaret Osburne of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Brittni Grier, James Brooks, Sara Avalos, Kaitlyn Slagowski (Ukaiah); great-grandchildren, MikiLeigh, Taylor, and Jamey, as well as many extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held in James' honor 4:25 PM on Saturday November 24, 2018 at his home in Atkinson, NC. 935 Beattys Bridge Rd.
