James J. Brown, 69, of Maple Hill passed gently from his earthly life to his eternal rest on Monday, September 9, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter surrounded by his devoted family.
He was born January 30, 1944 in Duplin County, the son of the late Joe and Trudy Caroline Maready Brown. Also lovingly remembered are his brother, Oliver Brown and sister, Belle Pittman, both who preceded James in death.
James is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Peggy Noble Brown; son, Derek Brown (Verna); daughter, Kelly B. Robinson (Jonathan) Robinson; grandson, Devin Mitchell; sisters, Bobbie Jenkins, Betty Pittman (Marvin), Janice Conrad (George), and Hilda James (Jesse); and many loving relatives and friends.
James was a faithful member and deacon of Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church. For over 30 years James was a member of Maple Hill Volunteer Fire Department. After retiring from Civil Service at Camp Lejeune, James worked for several years for Quality Turf.
James was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. He tried to see only the good in others, while always trying to give everyone the best of himself. His life was guided by a strong and practiced faith in God. James will be remembered as a gentle, kind and honorable man that leaves a wonderful legacy for family and friends
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Micky Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Noble Family Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Greg Pittman, Mike Jenkins, Keith Pittman, Jamie Craft, Kevin Craft, and Devin Mitchell. Honorary bearers will be deacons of Maple Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Maple Hill Volunteer Firemen.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
