James Elmo Bond, age 68, of Surf City and formerly of Rose Hill died Tuesday August 10, 2010 at Woodbury Wellness Center.
Born December 11, 1941 in Duplin County, he was the son of the late Reverend Raymond Bruce and Lyda Mae McCoy Bond. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Tamela Bond Williams; brothers, Raymond Bond, Clifton Bond and Kirby Bond and twin sisters, Loyce Bond and Joyce Bond O'Briant.
James was a member of Rose Hill PFWB Church and attended Chapel By the Bay in Surf City since relocating there.
Surviving are his loving wife of forty-seven years, Brenda Garriss Bond; sons James Byron Bond and Charles Dwayne Bond, both of Benson; grandchildren, Jessica Bond and Jamie Bond and husband, Stephen Johnson; great grandchildren, Destiny Johnson and Landon Johnson; sister, Juanita Padgett and husband, Mitchell of Willard, Naomi Beacham and husband, Mike of Burgaw and Rebecca Herring and husband, Bobby of Hampstead; loving mother-in-law, Edna Garriss of Watha and numerous relatives and friends.
A celebration of James' life will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Don Myers and Reverend Jack Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
The family will receive friends 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, one hour prior the service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home and other times at the Bond's residence.
James was a devoted husband and caring father, grandfather and brother. He was a simple man who enjoyed spending time with family especially his grandchildren and fixing whatever was broken. His final wishes were that everyone would come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. James will be remembered for his great wisdom, his love for family and his steadfast faith in God. Loved by all, he will be greatly missed.
