James "Jimmy" Wheless Eury, Sr., age 62, of Rocky Point and formerly of Wallace died unexpectedly Saturday, February 14, 2009 at his home.

He was born October 28, 1946 in Warren County and was the son of Marie Martin Eury of Wilmington and the late Joseph Clay Eury, Jr.

In addition to his mother, Jimmy is survived by his wife of nineteen and one half years, Peggy M. Eury of the home; son, James "Jim" Eury, Jr. of Rocky Point; daughters, Kimberly Figueroa of Wilmington and Emily Stout of Michigan; step-children, Jeffrey, Matthew, Debra, and Joseph; sixteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Blair of Wilmington and Mary Ann Zarko of Leland; and brother, Danny Eury of Harrells.

Jimmy was a former volunteer fireman with the Seagate Volunteer Fire Department in Wilmington and was currently a school bus driver in New Hanover County at Laney High School.

His hands spent many hours with his passion of making, refinishing and painting furniture and woodcraft items. Many things in his home are beautiful reminders of his skill. With his kindly smile and witty personality, Jimmy never met a stranger. Cherished memories of Jimmy will forever remain in our hearts.

A memorial service celebrating Jimmy's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Castle Hayne Baptist Church with The Rev. Billy Fowler officiating.
