Obituary

On January 1, 2022, James Edward Patrick Fagan, 83, loving husband, father of three daughters, and grandfather left this world surrounded by loved ones.

James "Jim" Edward Fagan was born, December 20, 1938, in Philadelphia to James and Florence.  Jim is survived by his soulmate and wife Ursula (Jost) of 47 years and his three daughters, Kelly Fagan (Jacob Dunnell) and Kathileen Hobart (Peter) of his first wife, Frances (Heiser) and Christine Carmine (Jay) of Ursula.   Jim also leaves behind his sister Rita League, his nephew Shawn League and grandchild Jessica Hobart.

Jim found his love of travel and adventure through Ursula and they approached life as most people plan a vacation, filling it with experiences and taking in as many of the sites as was possible. He was a successful salesman in the medical industry which allowed him to live and travel around the world. He made his home in Hong Kong, Switzerland, England, as well as various States here at home.

His greatest joy came from experiencing the cultures of the countries he visited. Just as he made a point of traveling off the beaten path to find the hidden treasures on his travels, he also did so in everyday life. Finding the most interesting local sites and restaurants, he loved getting up close with nature and sharing knowledge with his girls.

The only thing he loved more than the adventures he undertook in his life was sharing the tales of those experiences with those around him. He was a gifted storyteller that knew the value of the right amount of detail, the importance of pace and the pregnant pause, and, of course, always a healthy dose of humor.

Jim was active in his community and the Catholic church, often taking part in both political and local causes that were important to him. He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies, even making up his own games. In his younger years, he filled his free time swimming in the ocean, taking long walks on the beach or in the woods, golf, sailing and kayaking. Jim was a voracious reader and enjoyed good movies, live theatre, and fine restaurants.

A private family gathering will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Lower Cape Fear Life Care of Wilmington, North Carolina at lifecare.org .
