Obituary

James Mosley Guy, Jr., age 80, of Burgaw died Monday, October 19, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born July 8, 1929 in Wilmington, the son of James Mosley and Catherine Saunders Guy. He was also predeceased by his wife, Beatrice Gropman Guy; sister, Betty G. Yow and brothers, John, Jerry and Allen Guy.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, James Robert and Patricia Guy of Goldsboro and Michael Allen and Tobi Guy of New Market, Maryland; grandchildren, Barbara Coughlin, Heather Guy-Watson and Shelly Guy and great grandchildren, Brittany Coughlin and Zachary Guy.

Mr. Guy was retired after 20 years of serving proudly in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era.

James was devoted to and loved his family dearly. After traveling the world and living in many different places during his military career James returned to Burgaw to live with and care for his mother, Catherine. Always enjoying the outdoors, he loved growing a garden and helping in the vineyard next to his mother's home. In years past hunting and fishing were both great sports he enjoyed. James was a quiet, kind and true gentleman always thinking of others. Cherished memories of James will forever remain in our hearts.

The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw.

A graveside service will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA with military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Hopewell Presbyterian Church, C/O Betty Evans, 7195 US Hwy 117 N, Watha, NC 28478.
