James "Jim" Franklin Drake, 87, of Burgaw passed peacefully from his earthly life Sunday, September 4, 2022 with loving family at his side holding his hand.

He was born July 18, 1935 in Hendersonville, the son of James Nathan Drake and Mary Morefield Drake. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Judith Collins Drake; daughter, Donna Moser; son, Barry Larocca; and grandson, Michael Hudson.

Jim is survived by his sons, Greg Drake and his wife, Terry, and Michael Larocca; grandchildren, Brad, Christy, and Tracie; eleven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; special friend, Shanna; and many friends, all who thought the world of Jim.

Jim Drake, a man who needed no introduction as his vibrant personality preceded him. The legend of the Green Swamp, he was a true lifelong member of the Bear Pen Hunting Club where he spent 55 plus years. Jim made many friends that he spent much of his time with either hunting or telling one of his many stories. Jim Drake was a Diamond Life sponsor and member of The National Wild Turkey Federation. Jim loved hunting, but most of all cherished every minute spent with his wife, sons, grandchildren and friends. No matter where he was he always had a good time. As hunting season approaches, we, the family would love for each one he has ever spent time hunting with or made an impression on at first harvest this year say a prayer in memory of our Wild Duck, Jim Drake.

The family will receive friends 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel followed by a graveside service at 4:00 p.m. at Riverview Memorial Park. The Rev. Merrell McKoy will conduct the service.
