James Floyd Kelley, Sr., 71, of Wallace passed away at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC , on Sunday, September 28, 2014.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. at James Kelley Family Cemetery in Wallace, NC.

He was born on June 16, 1943 in Duplin County, NC, the son of the late James W. and Annie Laura English Kelley.

He attended NC State where he was a member of the marching band. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Wallace and enjoyed singing in the Sonshine Choir.

Mr. Kelley is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Kelley of Wallace, NC, a son, Floyd Kelley (Kathy) of Wallace, NC, two daughters, Vicky Campbell (Jimmy) of St. Marys, GA and Gwen Cavenaugh (Kenneth) of Wallace, NC, six grandchildren, Alex Campbell (Calen), Rachel Campbell, Laura Hatcher (Daniel), Sarah Kelley, Chandler Cavenaugh and Conner Cavenaugh, one brother, Larry T. Kelley (Betty) of Wallace, NC, and one sister, Emily Carr (Billy) of Wallace, NC.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Jim and Lacy Kelley and Dewey and Margaret English.

James was a devoted husband and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend. He found great joy in the simplest things, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. James was a people's person and never met a stranger. He was a craftsman with woodworking and enjoyed mowing grass. He took great pride in cooking for family and trying new recipes. James truly loved his family and friends and they loved and cared for him in return. Cherished memories of James will forever remain in our hearts.
