October 14, 1927 – October 12, 2011
James Hubert Lewis, 83, of Currie passed from his earthly life on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 to join in heaven his family gone before him.
He was born October 14, 1927 in Columbus County, the son of the late T. L. and Lois Carter Lewis. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Flora Belle Rasberry Lewis; step-son, Jerry Rasberry; and one brother.
James is survived by his daughter, Janice L. Casey (Ronald Hughes) of Riegelwood; sons, Terry Lewis (Theressa) of White Lake, Bobby James Lewis, Greg Lewis and Jimmy Lewis all of Currie; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Maedee Shade of Winterville and Jessie Lee Mitchell of Pensacola, Florida, and brother, Thomas Lewis of Caswell Beach.
James was a longtime member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He served his country proudly with valor in the US Army during WW II and a number of years following the war. Being a Pender County farmer, James enjoyed being outdoors growing crops in God's good earth.
James was a devoted husband and loving daddy, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother and friend who loved his family and always took care of them. James had special affection for his faithful dogs, Harley and Princess. After James retired he still kept busy by collecting scrap metal and recycling it; James was never idle.
