James Thomas Long, 90, of Rocky Point passed peacefully from his earthly life Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born December 21, 1931 in Brunswick County to Elmer Long and Pauline Long Duncan. In addition to his parents James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Myrtle Long; and sister, Marie Buchanan.

James is survived by his son, Danny Long and wife, Janet; grandchildren, Kyle Fortune and wife, Amy, and Kevan Fortune; great grandchildren, Rory Fortune and Wesley Fortune; sisters, Delores Harrison (Travis) and Patricia Adkins (John); and several nieces and nephews.

After working 40 years, James retired from Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Wilmington.

In years past James always found time to go fishing and his most favorite pastime was driving his tractor. He was a loyal friend to many. Most of all James was a devoted husband, loving daddy, granddaddy, and brother. He took great pleasure in giving the grandchildren nick names. James lived a long and fruitful life and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Pat Hall conducting the service. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, 28409
