Obituary

James "Jimmy" Esta Parrish, age 86, of Liberty passed from this life to his eternal rest on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at his sister's home in Aberdeen.

He was born June 4, 1924 in Harnett County and was the son of the late Mack Lewis and Chessie Viola Butts Parrish. He was also predeceased by his devoted wife of 63 years, Thelma Webber Parrish; brothers, Martin H. Parrish and William Lewis Parrish; step-brothers, Ralston Williams and Willie "Billy" Williams; half sister, Lois Pearman and stepsister, Morris Gray Tucker.

Mr. Parrish served his country honorably in the US Navy during WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church of Liberty. He was employed with Greendale Hosiery until his retirement.

Surviving are his loving sisters, Alice Jones and husband, David and Alma Reid and husband, Clyde, all of Aberdeen; stepsister, Evon Brockwell of Carrboro; numerous special brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 20, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Brian Harrington officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Riverview Memorial Park in Watha.

Casketbearers will be Ricky Jones, Danny Hawks, Chris Lewis, Tim Williams, Billy Parrish and Clyde Reid, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12 Noon Friday,May 20, 2011, one hour prior the funeral service at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.

Jimmy was a faithful husband and caring brother, uncle and friend. He was a man of uncommon character, with such an humble and loving spirit; and to those who knew him, "an instrument of God's love on this earth." He was a friend to all, a strong yet gentle presence who looked for and encouraged the best in everyone. Jimmy will surely be missed but cherished memories of him will forever remain in our hearts.
