Obituary

James William Penley, age 73, of Swansboro passed peacefully from his earthly life to his eternal rest on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington surrounded by his loving family.

James was born February 23, 1938 in Alamance County and was the son of the late Clifford Rodrick Penley and Mary Whitley Penley. He is survived by his devoted wife, Beatriz E. Penley; sons, Rodrick Penley of Swansboro and Richard Penley and his wife, Amy of Burgaw; grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Rylan and Jodi; brother, Cliff Penley of California and sister, Doris VonMueller of California.

James served his country honorably in the US Navy and was a long time member of Jacksonville Moose Lodge.

James first and foremost was a collector of all things. Softball was his passion which he played until he was well into his sixties. He also enjoyed fishing and all of nature. Time spent with his Moose Lodge buddies was always enjoyed by James. Cherished memories of James will forever remain in our hearts.

James' remains will rest in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
