James Ralph Powell, 87, of Wilmington passed gently from his earthly life Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

He was born January 7, 1935 in Wilmington, the son of Ralph Powell and Tempie Fountain Powell. In addition to his parents James was predeceased by his brothers, Morris Fountain Powell and Wilber Julian Powell; and his life partner, Joseph P. Carpenter, Jr.

James is survived by his daughters, Laura Powell and Anna Powell Speight (Brian); grandchildren, Olivia Speight, Jakob Speight and Ava Speight; niece, Connie Jean Evans; and not to be forgotten grand-pup, Gus.

James was retired as a store manager of an ABC Store in Wilmington where he made many friends and acquaintances.

He loved family history, antiques, and camellias. James was an animal lover and through the years had dozens of many different species of furry companions. In the past several years Living at The Woods at Holly Tree James made new friends and enjoyed their company. Most of all James loved his family and they will surely miss him.

As James requested there will be no services.
