Obituary

James "Jimmy" Rhett Riley, age 71, of Rocky Point died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 20, 1939 in Portsmouth, Virginia and was the son of Jacob Rhett Riley and Bessie Brice Riley Weaver.

Jimmy is survived by his devoted wife of 37 years, Marie Saunders Riley and step-daughter, Angela Hinson of Burgaw and her special friend, Scott Rivenbark.

Jimmy was a member of Riley's Creek Baptist Church. He served his country honorable in the US Coast Guard. For 25 years Jimmy was employed as dispatcher with D & L Trucking, Inc.

Being quiet in manner and strong in spirit, Jimmy was a very generous man who loved his family. There were many things he did for others that no one ever knew about. Jimmy was a hard worker and always gave one hundred percent to everything he did. Cherished memories of Jimmy will forever remain in our hearts.

Graveside funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2011 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Dean Walker officiating. Casketbearers will be Rick Little, Bob Jones, Scott Rivenbark, Seth Roach, Charlie Porter and Will Powell.

The family will receive friends at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw prior to the graveside service on Monday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given in memory and in honor of Jimmy to the charity of one's choice.
