James "Jay" Baxter Rivenbark, Jr., age 53, of Wilmington, NC passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. He was born on October 5, 1969, to James "Jim" B. Rivenbark and Elaine "Gayle" Newkirk Rivenbark.

Jay grew up in Greensboro, NC but his heart was always at Wrightsville Beach, NC where he spent his summers. He began surfing at age 9 and later enjoyed a trip around the world with 7 friends stopping in Indonesia to surf for two weeks. His other love was snow skiing, especially at Park City, Utah area.

Jay was President and owner of Cape Fear Custom Painting Inc. for over 25 years.

In addition to his parents, James is also survived by his sister, Susan E. Rivenbark of Wilmington, NC; aunt, Itice R. Goldthorpe of Nashville, TN; uncle, Robert A. Rivenbark of Wilmington, NC; cousins, Ted Goldthorpe, KT Goldthorpe, Allen Rivenbark, Robin Schultz, Nadine Bradshaw and Chris Grill.

A visitation will be held at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home, 315 Willow Woods Drive, Wilmington, NC 28412, on Sunday, April 30, 2023, between 2pm and 4pm. Live stream will begin after 3pm. A private burial will take place at a later date.
