James Carroll Sholar, 94, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from Golden Care Rest Home.
He was born December 12, 1919 in Duplin County; the son of the late James Monroe and Alice Pierce Sholar. He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Ida Glenn Raynor Sholar and four siblings.
Mr. Sholar attended Lighthouse Family Worship Center.
Surviving is his devoted children, Edith S, English and husband, Russell and Morrison Sholar and wife, Linda, all of Wallace; grandchildren, Connie Sholar Blanton and husband, Doug, Sheri Sholar Jenkins and husband, Marion, Portia English Payne and husband, Rob and Matthew Sholar; great grandchildren, Kayla Blanton, Ethan Blanton, Bobby Payne, Charlie Payne, Marleigh Elizabeth Payne and Bailey Jenkins and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Carroll was a loving daddy and caring granddaddy who loved his family dearly. He was a simple man who was respected by all who knew him. He was a good, quiet and humble man who enjoyed being around his family and friends. Being a hard worker and good provider, Carroll always made certain his family had what they needed. He enjoyed farming and working with wood, whether he was building a piece of furniture or just whittling on a piece of cedar. In his later years, he was affectionately known as "Candy Man" at church and the rest home as he would share his candy and gum with others. Carroll was truly a gift from God and all who knew him were very blessed.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Lighthouse Family Worship Center with the Reverend Jim Brinkley and the Reverend Roland Penny officiating.
Burial will follow in Lighthouse Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the funeral and graveside service in the Lighthouse Family Worship Center chapel and other times at the home of Morrison and Linda Sholar.
Casketbearers will be Doug Blanton, Rob Payne, Deuland Sholar, Charles Horne, Steve Rhodes and Marion Jenkins.
The family of James Carroll Sholar wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Golden Care Rest Home for the love, kindness and wonderful care that was given to their father throughout the years and to Carolina East Hospice for the compassionate care they gave to Mr. Carroll. You have truly been a blessing.
