Obituary

James Thomas Spearman, 82, of Teachey left this life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from Vidant Duplin Hospital.

He was born May 6, 1933 in Duplin County and was the son of the late George Spearman, Sr. and Lola Horrell Spearman Brinkley. He was also predeceased by his great grandson, Ayden Thomas Cavenaugh and siblings, George Spearman, Harvey Lee Spearman and Mabel Brown.

James loved his country and proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

James was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and brother who loved his family dearly. He was a simple man who worked hard and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He enjoyed farming and was a master mechanic for farm equipment. It was said that he was a "genius in his own right" in terms of being a mechanic. During his lifetime, James designed and built two tobacco harvesters. He was a joker and loved to make people laugh. James will be missed but fond memories of him will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 56 years, Nellie Moore Spearman; his children, Sharon Collins and husband, Robert of Red Oak, Jamie Spearman of Wallace and Thomas Spearman, Sr. and wife, Connie of Teachey; grandchildren, Seth Cavenaugh, Meghan Cavenaugh, Corey Cavenaugh, Thomas Spearman, Jr. and Ashton Spearman; great grandchildren, Hailey Cavenaugh, Ava Hollingsworth, Marley Johnson and Kali Johnson; sister, Nancy Brice and husband, Phil of Castle Hayne and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
