James N.
Wooten, Sr
Jan 8, 1932 — May 20, 2014
James Nathaniel Wooten, Sr. was born January 8, 1932 and passed away to his heavenly home on May 20, 2014, the son of John Alexander Wooten and Mary Elizabeth Fales Wooten. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faye Wilkens Wooten and his son, James N. Wooten, Jr and wife Katherine. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jack and John Wooten.
He was born and raised on Eagles Island where his dad worked at Hamme's Boatyard. At that time there were no schools in the Northern end of Brunswick County and he and his brothers had to be rowed across the Cape Fear River to attend school in New Hanover County. He served in the Army, stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged. He worked for Newell Incorporated before opening his own business on Burnett Blvd. in Wilmington. He and his family successfully ran Wooten's Small Engines for 21 years. He taught Sunday School and was a Deacon at Union Grove Baptist Church in Delco, NC for many years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fixing engines, watching old cowboy movies and eating a good meal with family and friends. He had a peaceful passing and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
The family would like to give all their thanks to the Hospice Care Center. The nurses and doctors at the Wilmington facility have been such a blessing to this family.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, Thursday at the funeral home where a funeral service will begin at 2PM. Interment Greenlawn Memorial Park.
